TokunbohThe joyful nature of Tokunboh Adeyemo was immediately evident as he stepped up to the podium tonight. Tokunboh is the General Secretary of the Association of Evangelicals of Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. He began by affirming the goodness of the Lord, "The Lord is good!" he said, "All the time!" we answered.

Tokunboh was born into a royal Muslim family in Western Nigeria. The second in a family of eight children, he was the oldest son. Destined to be the chief of his tribe, he was educated in the best institutions in the country. He got involved in politics as a young man as the secretary of a political party. A faithful follower of Islam, he recited his creed religiously, fasted for 30 days at Ramadan, and prayed "There is no God but Allah, Mohammed was his prophet." People looked at him and saw a young man with a promising future, but Tokunboh felt an ache inside, an emptiness he could not fill.

He began to ask questions such as, "What is life?" and "Where do people go after death?" These questions became a quest for him. A teacher at the school where Tokunboh was headmaster invited him to church. When he witnessed people with few material possessions worshiping God with joy and fervor, he was impressed. He decided to find out the reason for their joy. Thinking his first impression might have been a fluke, he went back, only to find the worship even better than before.

TokunbohGod had to overcome his former belief in the religion of Islam before Jesus could be his Savior. A guest evangelist, a South African man was invited to preach at a tent meeting lasting for a week. On the third night, spoke on John 10:10, explaining that Christ came, not to introduce another religion, but a relationship. "As the man concluded, I decided to follow Yeshua, the giver of life. That was Sept 13, 1966, 30 years ago."

Today all 8 members Tokunboh’s family are followers of Jesus Christ. He shared with us that there is only one missionary for every one million Muslim. "We must be ashamed of ourselves. Jesus wants us to go to the unreached. I challenge you tonight, don’t pray for an easy life. Pray God will burden you with passion for the Muslim world. I’ve made up my mind, and I pray ‘Lord give me the continent of Africa, or else, I die’."

"Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life." "

Mark 10:28-30 (NIV)
