Urbana Archives Joining God's Mission
We must decide yes or no.

The choice is really quite simple. As believers, we have two basic options. . .

We can feign a shallow faith in Jesus with seemingly sincere words, promises and songs, but steer clear of paying any price of obedience to his commands. Our salvation is by faith and not works, we might declare, while giving lip service to those in need but withholding any action that requires loving sacrifice on our part.

Or, as an act of worship, we can choose the second option, go against the grain of the world, join God's mission to love the loveless and act upon our faith in Jesus. We have the Spirit to guide us and empower us to do what we thought impossible, to pursue reconciliation with our peers and even our enemies, give financially when we ourselves feel poor, serve and suffer so that others might understand the truth of the Gospel.

These are our options. This evening, we look to Jesus who beckons us to join him.

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been give to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Matthew 28:19,20 (NIV)
