Urbana Archives In Light of Eternity

Steve Hayner

Steve Hayner gave the keynote address for tonight's evening worship gathering. Recounting "God's Story" of nurturing his creation to ultimately share fellowship with them, he carefully described God's work, weaving in all the major themes of the convention. According to Steve's nine-year-old son, this story is "jawesome news," or "100 times awesome." Now that we are coming to the third millenium, Steve declared, we must not lose sight of God's story.

Steve challenged us to live in light of eternity with a true picture of heaven, not puffy clouds and harps. Heaven will include the love and intimacy for which we have always longed; it will be a world of unsurpassed beauty, fulfillment and adventure.

Interspersed throughout Steve's talk, the drama team performed for us a number of Scriptures from different parts of God's Story. At the end, they led us in reciting a passage from Isaiah, each person in his or her native tongue.

Truthfully, a summary cannot do justice to Steve's message; we invite you to listen to it in its entirety!

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!"
