International Student Track at Urbana 03
Are
you an international student attending Urbana 03? Join us for the first integrated
International Student Track in the history of Urbana! We hope that you as
an international student will see your background, spiritual experience,
education, multi-lingual gifts, cross-cultural skills, and North American
experience as gifts from God to be used for His Kingdom. The International
Student Track will provide international students valuable opportunities
to seek their role in God’s Kingdom through interaction
with other internationals, multi-cultural Bible studies, track-specific
seminars, country-specific
prayer groups, and two special general sessions.
Find out more information about who can attend.
”I attended InterVarsity’s Urbana 87 Student Mission Convention [as an international student from Taiwan]… At this convention, the Lord called me to be a missionary. I kept asking God: What can I do for Chinese people? … The Lord led me to go back to Asia after eight years of studying and working in the United States. Now I have been involved in Asian church leadership training and church planting for nearly a decade.”
— Serena Chen, serving in Taiwan with China Ministries International
Meet other Internationals
In the International Student Track, you will live and eat together with other
internationals in a specially assigned dorm. Over meals and in the hallways,
you can interact with students from across the globe. Get a taste of the
Kingdom of God, where “a great multitude that no one could count,
from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages” comes
together to worship God (Rev. 7:9).
Multi-cultural Bible Study
Each morning, you will participate in diverse small group Bible studies.
Get to know someone from the other side of the world more personally. Hear
the stories of God’s work in India, China, Nigeria, or Brazil. Share
what God has done in your life and your experience of studying in North
America.
General Sessions
In addition to participating in all the Urbana general sessions, you will
have the opportunity to attend two extra general sessions on Sunday and
Tuesday afternoons. These added sessions will feature international worship,
testimonies, and videos, as well as talks from platform speakers geared
specifically to international students.
For the Sunday session, Rev. John Stott,
former rector of All Soul’s Church in England, will share the three
choices he made that most impacted his life and the Kingdom of God. And on
Tuesday, Lisa Espineli Chinn,
director of International Student Ministries for InterVarsity/USA, will
share from the book of Esther about joining God’s mission. Each talk will
be followed by a question and answer period.
Seminars for International Students
During your free afternoons, you can participate in seminars designed specifically
for international students. We have seminars available on issues of specific
cultures, on taking the Kingdom home, and on a number of other issues.
Browse our current list of international student seminars on the seminars
page.
Country-Specific Prayer Groups
After the evening session in the assembly hall, you will return to your dorms
for worship and prayer with students from your own country or region. Please
bring musical instruments and worship songs from your own culture. You
will have the opportunity to pray for God’s Kingdom to come and His
will to be done in your home country together with others who speak your
language.
Who can attend?
To attend the track, you must be either:
- a full-time or part-time international student in a North American
college or university,
or - someone currently involved in friendship/ministry with international students.
How do I register?
When you are registering online, you will be asked if you would like to be
part of the International Student Track. ***Please Note: The International
student track is now FULL. Indicating whether or not you are still interested
