A Prayer Bulletin for InterVarsity’s
20th Student Mission Convention

March 2004

For almost 2000 years now, followers of Jesus have been forming prayer partnerships across cities and continents so that God's grace and blessing can bring hope to the needy and the Good News about His Son to those who don't yet know Him.

Thank you for joining in this rich tradition to pray for the Urbana 03 convention! God has done marvelous things. Join us in celebrating God's extravagant gifts to us and His acts of power at Urbana 03.

Give God praise for:

  • The students who attended Urbana 03. We are especially celebrating Urbana 03 as the most multiethnic convention in Urbana history with over 35% of the Convention delegates representing non-white communities. Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done.
  • The presence and leadership of our Native American brothers and sisters in the Urbana 03 program? Here are one delegate's words about the Dec. 29 t evening general session: ? This was a powerful evening where God gave us an amazing gift through Ray Aldred and Jonathon Maracle. The last song that was sung was a gift to a generation of students who have experienced pain and brokenness. I appreciated the blessing that was given by the Native American community. Thank you for your risk and forgiveness of the church of North America . I believe that students will continue to wrestle with all the implications of what was said and their experiences of the convention that evening.? Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done.
  • The offering : We had prayed specifically for a million dollars in offering for the poor, for sister student movements in the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, for ministry in Muslim countries, and for other student mission conferences around the world. The delegates gave $1,200,000 in one offering and by fasting one lunchtime meal. Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done.
  • God's call to delegates and their immense responses to Him:
    • To date, 82 delegates received Jesus as Savior and Lord at this Convention.
    • We prayed specifically that at least 10,000 delegates would respond to the call to some form of direct mission involvement. 10,183 answered "yes" to that call.
    • On the second night of the convention, delegates were asked to stand in prayer, making specific commitments to repent from any idolatry in their lives and to embrace the reign of Jesus in those places. Although there was no exact count, some feel that nearly 90% of the delegates stood up to make that commitment. The movement towards repentance and commitment continued to deepen in the lives of many delegates over the remainder of the convention.
