Faith on Campus Today

Invitation to a Discussion
by editorial dept.

College-aged American Christians are very much alive and active, but are they a church in any meaningful sense of the term?

Two major studies on the spiritual lives of American college students have been published in the last week. UCLA’s Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) interviewed over 100,000 students at hundreds of colleges and universities. A smaller study, but intriguing as well, was produced by Reboot, a Jewish youth research group. That study, called “OMG! How Generation Y is Redefining Faith in The iPod Era,” focuses on the individualistic approach to faith taken by many young people today.

InterVarsity has provided a summary of the studies’ findings on their website’s report.

As a website dedicated to examining students’ role in God’s world, urbana.org sits in the middle of this research. And the conversation involves you. This is an exciting moment for the American church: generational change, immigration sweeping the nation, and major upheavals in the global church.

Therefore: let’s talk. Take a look at one or more of the studies above, think a little, and join the conversation in urbana.org’s discussion area. You’ll need to create a free login, and then you can participate in this hot topic.

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been give to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Matthew 28:19,20 (NIV)
