IFES Twinning Relationships

InterVarsity is setting up partnership relationships between North American student groups and those overseas who are members of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, known as IFES. Called "Twinning," these relationships can add reality and a personal quality to thinking globally as a group. To set up such a relationship, follow these steps:

  1. Ask the InterVarsity staff if the area or region already has an IFES Twinning relationship. If they do, ask them to assist you in establishing contact with a sister student group in that movement.
  2. If your area does not already have a Twinning relationship, contact InterVarsity Missions and request help in setting up a Twinning relationship.
  3. Ways in which you can be involved in such a relationship include:

    • correspond regularly: have small group Bible studies take turns writing to the other group

    • read letters at large group meetings

    • send and receive pictures

    • pray for each other's needs in Bible studies and large group meetings

    • raise money for special projects or training

    • send goods that would be helpful, such as books: have a collection box at meetings for Christian books, materials and even T-shirts from your school or area

    • send a member of your group on a short-term to partner in their ministry

    • keep a map up at all of your large group meetings and display pictures and special items to remind people of the connection

    • be creative and continually inform members of your group about the Twinning relationship

  4. Emphasis should be placed on mutuality in this relationship. Both groups in a Twinning relationship have ways to give and receive. For North American groups, leaders should ask, "What can we learn?" as much as "What can we offer?"

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and truth."
