The Cloud
in response to Urbana 70by Clifford Bajema
Most awed and threatened, too,
by the massive display of youthful regiments
assembled in ordered array
under the arching, web-like fingers
of a cemented mushroom: poised
in
lethal
suspension
and
hopeful
anticipation
of
drifting
to
distant
continents
whereon
to
drop
its
human
dust,
I can not stop my guilty self from wondering,
wondering,
wondering if I will be as quick
to clap my hands to the will of God
when His order of some day is to starve
in a lonely hovel
with hungry men
without the spiritual smorgasbord of celebrated speakers
to feed
and say
and say
and say
to me
the Way.
