Options in Missions
When God gave the Great Commission, he also gave vision, calling and gifting to his people to participate in it. Since the Great Commission involves a variety of facets such as going, making disciples and teaching his commands, there are a variety of roles needed to complete it. Today what is needed most is a global community of Christians who see the multitude of possibilities for joining this endeavor and working together to establish his kingdom worldwide.
Consider some of these roles as present or future options:
- Missionaries: Evangelists, church planters, pastors, educators, Bible translators, health care and agricultural workers, student workers, urban leaders, support services, etc.
- Tentmakers: Often employed in secular jobs, using marketplace skills and training to be salt and light on the job and through the job.
- Short-Termers: Spend 2 weeks to 2 years performing a wide range of possible roles in cross-cultural settings.
- Study Abroad: Become a student in another land and join a powerful missions force while you are working on a degree!
- Senders: Through actively encouraging, praying and financially supporting those in evangelism and cross-cultural ministry, providing a "home base" for those on the front lines.
- Missions-Minded Lay People: involved in a church as well as local missions, and holding up the banner for world missions and global concern to help mobilize other Christians.
- Missions-Minded Pastors: The North American church needs pastors who help move congregations to respond to the Great Commission and become Christians who think and care globally for the Church.
