Responding to the Tsunami
by Barry SherbeckChristians urgently need to respond to the tsunami disaster that has affected millions of people around the Indian Ocean. The death toll has exceeded 150,000, and more will die from unsanitary conditions and food, water, and medical supply shortages. The UN has warned of pending epidemics from water-borne diseases in several areas in the next few days. Millions have lost their homes.
While the current need is for medicine, food, dry rations and clothing, later on there will be a need to help rebuild lives (build homes, provide counseling), livelihoods (fishing boats for fishermen), and infrastructure.
