Day Twenty-Nine - August 31
Read I Corinthians 12:1-20
Think How have you experienced God at work through you for the good of others? Imagine yourself as a part of a physical body. Which part would you be? Why? Write about it in your urbana.org MyJournal (free login required).
Respond Thank God for His Spirit and all that His Spirit does for His people. Thank God for the gifts He's given to others in your church that have ministered to you in some specific way. (How can you express your thanks to that person this week?) Ask God to reveal and fully use all of the gifts of His Spirit He's given to His people in your church.
Correspond: Share your thoughts and prayers in the discussion area (free login required).
Day Thirty – September 1
Read Galatians 1:11-2:10
Think Think back over your own history with God. How did you first hear the gospel? What people have played a key role in your spiritual development? What were the pivotal events? Is there any obvious theme, direction, or calling that stand out as you recall your spiritual history?
Respond Thank God for setting you apart for a purpose. Ask Him to confirm His purposes for you as He did for Paul - through the Word, the Spirit and His people.
Correspond: Share your thoughts and prayers in the discussion area (free login required).
Day Thirty-One – September 2
Read I Thessalonians 5:12-24
Think Read each command in verses 12-22 as if it were a statement of fact. (e.g., "I pray continually.") Is that statement true of you? Imagine what you will be like when God fulfills His promises in verses 23-24. Write about it in your urbana.org MyJournal.
Respond As you reflect on each command, respond to the Lord in confession, prayer and thanks. Ask Him to give you what you need to obey today.
Correspond: Share your thoughts and prayers in the discussion area (free login required).
Day Thirty-Two – September 3
Read II Timothy 2:1-7
Think What are you being taught these days? How? By whom? Imagine yourself a soldier. What are the implications for your life with the Lord? Imagine yourself an athlete ... a farmer ... Reflect on those things, asking the Lord for insight into them.
Respond Pray according to the insight the Lord gives you from this passage. Ask the Lord to show you a "reliable" person to pass on what you are learning. Pray for that person.
Correspond: Share your thoughts and prayers in the discussion area (free login required).
Day Thirty-Three – September 4
Read Hebrews 12:1-12
Think Imagine your life as a marathon. Where are you in the race? Is there anything weighing you down or in the way of you winning at this point? Who is cheering you on? How do you feel about what's required to finish well in the course ahead? Imagine what's waiting for you at the finish line, according to this passage. Write about it in your urbana.org MyJournal.
Respond Fix your eyes on Jesus right now: talk to Him about what it took for Him to endure until the end - and let Him talk to you about what you need to finish well.
Thank your Father for His love, for His loving purposes in your life, and for the ways you're experiencing His discipline.
Correspond: Share your thoughts and prayers in the discussion area (free login required).
Day Thirty-Four – September 5
Read James 1:19-27
Think Think about people or circumstances that have recently provoked you to anger. How did you respond? Imagine what might have happened if you followed the advice of verse 19. Who have you seen yourself to be in the "mirror" of the word during the last 34 days of prayer? What has God done for you as you've obeyed in specific ways? Write about it in your urbana.org MyJournal.
Respond Thank God for what He wants to give you. Pray about the commands in this passage: Ask God to empower you to obey each one.
Correspond: Share your thoughts and prayers in the discussion area (free login required).
Day Thirty-Five – September 6
Review Look over the past week: What prayers has God answered? Thank Him! Who have you seen God to be? Worship Him! What themes have emerged? Pray about them! What are you learning about prayer? Share it with someone!
