Summary: People from the East often look at the spiritual shallowness of Americans with a mixture of nausea and pity, the same as material-minded Americans when they see bloated, starving children. No wonder we need a little handbook on having a soul. Obviously, that book is the Bible, the words of life to the dying, and Hansen's little book will open your eyes to the bible in a new way.

I consider myself a fairly spiritual person, but when I picked up this book, I was shocked to discover how shallow I really am. Mr. Hansen goes straight to the issues Americans desperately avoid, like death and emptiness. He says shocking things to rugged individualists, but good things.

Hansen is a rural pastor in Montana, and his stories sound like the words of the weathered old mountain prospector or horseman, who could show you the most beautiful view, but would rather hint at where you might find it.
