Summary:
The world has made tremendous progress in reducing hunger during the past twenty-five years. The number of hungry people has declined even as the world's population has increased. Expanding economic opportunity and the growth of more democratic governments have been instrumental in this success.
A great challenge remains with over 800 million still in need. But workable solutions do exist--for example, lending small amounts of money to poor people so they can start their own businesses and promoting simple child health and nurtition programs. These and other effective options are just the beginning of answers to difficult problems.
The hopeful message of Grace at the Table is that widespread hunger can be ended for good. While exploitation and tyranny will always cause some to go without, we already have the ideas, experience, financing and technology to put nearly all hunger behind us.
Every time we give thanks, every time we say grace at a meal, we are reminded that our daily bread is a gift from God--and it is a gift to share. Here is a book that shows us God's heart and encourages us to follow him by meeting the needs of many around the world.
