One “globalization” or many? This collection of essays is an amazing ride through a world of Christian views on globalization, with as many different perspectives as contributors. Is globalization really all about money? Or is it a fundamental shift in how we do relationships? Is it technology or love that keeps us together? Is globalization an evil mutation to resist in Jesus’ Name or simply a shift to be used for the sake of the Good News? Whatever your current opinion, you’ll be challenged to think, test and translate points and principles into your own context and the world as you know it. And you’ll have your eyes opened to see the world as you never have known it before.

While One World or Many? can be read on your own, it will be most enjoyable and transformational when discussed, prayed over, and applied in groups. Below is a cluster of questions to be used either individually or in small group discussions. It can be used with individual chapters to help you get at key points. Or to help you address the major themes and contrasting ideas of the book.

DISCERN

Is there one thing that is obviously applicable to you and the work God’s given you to do? Ask the Lord to show you how He wants you to respond to what you’ve seen in this book. If discussing this in a small group, agree on one theme, one theological issue or one fact to tackle as a group.

IMAGINE

Take one theme or fact that stood out to you and imagine what might your work look like if you put this one thing into practice or made it real? What would you look like? If discussing this in a small group, brainstorm together about what your workplace would look like if this was made real by all of you?

PLAN

Make an action plan to implement that one thing in your work. Include what you will do personally (this may be different for each person); what the group will do together (how will you hold each other accountable?); and what you can ask others to do (how will you do that?).

  • List 1 or 2 doctrines or theologies that you will need to understand more deeply and/or keep in mind as you take action. Why are these critical to this plan?
  • List the resources you learned about in this book – or that you are already aware of – that can help you take specific, practical steps. How will you access these resources?
  • What obstacles are there personally, organizationally, culturally & spiritually to implementing this plan?
  • When and how will you evaluate whether or not you’re accomplishing the intended purposes?

If discussing this in a small group:

  • Are there things you can do as a group to keep Scripture and God’s purposes in focus?
  • Is there anything you can do together to overcome those obstacles?
