Operation World is the best Christian prayer guide to the world. It is a book on prayer, divided by day and by country, so you can pray for the world over year round. There is no better way to develop a heart for a nation from a distance, than on your knees, praying for them.
I used Operation World, and it really focused my intercessions for the world. It gave me practical things to pray for each day of the year such as the demographics of the country, missions organizations currently there, the percentages of religions there, and lots of other pieces of practical 'inside' information you wouldn't normally be able to access.
I highly recommend this book if you have a heart to pray for the world, but aren't sure how to concretely start doing so.
