Summary: "The world and all that is in it is mine," says the Lord. Should we then hold it in contempt?
pro-existence means that people should be for existence, not against it. The external universe is there because God created it. Thus creativity, work and property - yes, even the things of the universe - have value.
Udo Middelmann takes a long, hard look at humanity's place in the circle of reality, and he suggests how people can express their unique identity and recognize that their lives are significant.
Though three decades old, this statement of the place of humanity in a post-industrial world remains relevant: The ideological stand-off between capitalism and communism, against which backdrop this book was written, may be over, but the core issues are as sharp as ever. If deep ecology develops into a world-view capable of shaking the world, as it seems to be in parts of Europe, Christians will need to dust off their thinking-caps once used to describe the meaning of life in a world created by an intimate God.
However, a hallmark of recent (meaning past 100 years) evangelical thought is an anhistorical arrogance, a need to invent from scratch what our elders in the faith already learned. Here is a glorified pamphlet (120 pages - little more than an "essay" in the days of Locke and Paine) that summarizes.
