Summary:

Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger shook up my InterVarsity chapter, when a member of the graduate chapter led a study with us undergrads.

I highly recommend this book with a warning: be prepared to get chastised for your lifestyle. That isn’t fun, but it is good, and if you’re like me, it’s much needed.

This book is no flash in the pan; it has been around for twenty years, and has been revised to include the latest statistics and developments. Sider is not the most popular thinker in Evangelical circles. Sometimes he’s been called a socialist by pastors who don’t believe in the responsibility of the church to help the poor.

If you read this book, however, you’ll see such accusations as nearly irrelevant next to the depth of this man’s love for the lost, and willingness to follow his own standards.

""You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.""

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
