God's Word
The Coming Race Wars? A Cry for Reconciliation
Authors: Pannell, William
ISBN: 0-310-38181-9
Publisher: Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan, 1993

Summary: The Coming Race Wars is a fascinating read: it was written in 1992, in the aftermath of the L.A. riots. It straddles two worlds: Pannell is addressing issues that mainstream evangelicals, almost a decade later, have yet to seriously grapple with. On the other hand, the fact that this book was only published after the riots demonstrates that even in 1992, it was several years late.

Not that the purpose was to stop the riots: that is just an attitude from the side of entrenched power. However, this book remains sharply relevant because Pannell’s vision remains almost entirely unheeded by large evangelical churches. There is no escape for blissfully ignorant white people here. Pannell demonstrates the similarities between the L.A. Riots and White history in this country (see the Labor movement and the Boston Tea Party). If you are scared of angry people, read this book. It’ll be good for you.
