Jimmy McGee graduated from Marquette University in 1986 with a degree in Sociology, and a minor in Theology. He has lived in Atlanta for the past 17 years, having moved here from Chicago to serve with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship on the historically black campuses at the Atlanta University Center.

In that capacity he has impacted college students' lives through mentoring, training, and directing conferences. For nine years, he directed the Atlanta Urban Project, 1989-1998. The Atlanta Urban Project recruited college students from the east coast to live in low moderate, income neighborhoods in Atlanta to mentor children.

He is the Director of the Pilgrimage for Reconciliation (PfR) and Associate Director of Multi Ethnic Ministries. PfR is a research and development program to further extend InterVarsity intent to become a multi ethnic fellowship. For twelve years Jimmy was involved with The Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta as an advisory member and past chair of the Neighborhood Fund advisory board. This board advises the Foundation to fund low-income neighborhoods in improving their communities.

He lives in the Tapestry Community, one of the Neighborhood Fund communities and has served as past president of the neighborhood association.

A voracious reader and historian, Jimmy is sought as a speaker, trainer, teacher and mentor.

Jimmy is married to Genie. They have been married for 16 years. They have three sons, James IV (Jay), Noah Aslan, and Asher Cross.
