Jack Voelkel
Introduction: A Great Cloud of Witnesses
History is about memory, and memory is what makes us human.
Relationships grow in the soil of trust, and trust grows out of memory. It is the human capacity to live not just in space, but also in time, that allows us to love God, and to love each other. Without memory, there is no belonging. Without memory, there is no growth. Without memory, we don’t even have names.
God is intimately relevant to each generation. Believers who have gone before us are witnesses to God’s grace, and mercy, and love. As their stories become our story, we come to know the same God they knew.
This series is about ordinary people, whom God used for extraordinary purposes. They were not so different from us. They didn’t like being lonely, or being threatened, or being pushed to doubt God’s faithfulness. But God brought them through, and we have the honor of being part of their family.
