A SEED SHALL SERVE : The Story of the Spiritual Leader of Modern Japan--Toyohiko Kagawa.
Simon, Charlie May
Hodder & Stoughton, 1959
133 pages

Abandoned as a child and nurtured by an American missionary, young Kagawa became alarmed by the terrible plight of Japan’s poorest citizens. He voraciously read the Bible and Christian authors, and charted a path of living among and serving the poorest of the poor. Kagawa established dwellings, schools, health care, agricultural training, labor law improvements and education for the least around him. His fame spread through his poetry and novels about modern life. Eventually, Kagawa was sought out by national and international leaders for his wisdom about poverty and compassion.

"Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life."
