AGING GRACEFULLY : The Keys to Holier, Happier Golden Years
review by Pete Hammond
Daniel J. Dymski
ACTA, 2002
Paperback 124 pages

This work is a guide to senior years. It is built around selected scripture texts, exercises for reflection and action, and the author’s compact insights. Dymski refers to his contributions as “aphorisms... intended for reflection and slow assimilation.” (Page 15) The book is organized around several dimensions of life that he refers to as “Keys to holier, joy-filled aging years.” (Pages 15-16). These include attitude, sharing, change and humor. He appeals for followers to honestly face the reality that aging and death are as real and inevitable as birth and youth. The section on “Pardon Yourself and Others” is especially helpful. I found Dymski’s work to be inviting, realistic, light hearted and candid, but I expect, as he and foreward writer Archbishop Rembert Weakland comment, few young folks will take the time to engage the topic until their mid- and later years. This will make a good gift to adult children with aging parents and friends entering the last third of the average American life.

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been give to me. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Matthew 28:19,20 (NIV)
