This is a wonderful book that examines the two sides of prayer: conversation with God and the revelation of God that makes up theology. Congar is a master of taking theological concepts such as sacraments, liturgy and preaching, and making them applicable to the reader’s life. In fact, Congar seems to delight in bringing theology into the smallness of each human life and making it fly. The first third of the book looks deep into God’s revelation of himself to us and our response to God’s call. Congar does not over-explain concepts that should rightly remain a mystery. That makes this book a satisfying, stretching and soul-searching read.
