CORPORATE GIANTS : Personal Stories of Faith and Finance
review by Pete Hammond
Robert Darden and P. J. Richardson
Fleming H. Revell, 2002
Hard Cover 303 pages

Darden and Richardson tell the stories of 35 leaders of mid to large businesses in America. This is the third volume in a series with the first two featuring sports figures faith journeys. Each profile is in an interview format with questions posed by the authors. I was glad to see that the questions were not formulaic, but adapted to each person and flowed from previous answers. All interviewees are men, and only one is non-white - African-American Herman Cain of Godfather’s Pizza. The companies they run include Burlington Northern Sante Fe, Conoco, Houston Astros baseball, Lanier Worldwide, The Phoenix Suns NBA basketball franchise and Ritz -Carlton Hotels. The men often referred to scriptural insights coming from Proverbs, but almost none spoke of principles from the Old Testament Prophets. Financial success is held in high regard by most. Church is a given in their lives. Sadly, but surprisingly, several of these leaders compartmentalize ministry as separate from running their company, but not Herman Cain.
