DAILY WISDOM FOR THE WORKPLACE
review by Pete Hammond
Pamela McQuade
Barbour, 2002
Paperback 365 pages

This daily devotional has one page for every day of the year and is described as “Practical, On-th-job Insight from Scripture.” That is true to a limited degree. Each day’s content has a scripture text printed for easy access, a brief commentary and a suggested prayer. Each reflection on the scripture for the day is quite personal or individualized, but not lacking in realism about those struggles. But little is offered about the bigger pictures in large organizations, the economy, corporate ethics or issues like competition, the market, or careers. For instance, very few texts come from the minor prophets and their concerns for systemic evil. This work would be a good gift to someone who has just begun to try connecting faith and work.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and truth."

John 4:23,24 (NIV)
