ECONOMIC JUSTICE FOR ALL
This often-quoted pastoral letter sprang out of a concern “to lift up the human and ethical dimensions of economic life.” It stresses the roles of family, church and community, and the United States’ obligation to the world’s poor. The book discusses labor and unemployment, food and agriculture, domestic education, and international trade. According to the bishops, “Every economic decision and institution must be judged in light of whether it protects or undermines the dignity of the human person.” (For a rebuttal, see the Lay Commission on Social Teaching, Liberty and Justice for All.) |
