FAITH AND WEALTH
This is a history of early Christian views on the origin, significance and use of money. González has exhaustively researched this vital marketplace topic largely ignored in Christian theology. He examines four centuries of Christian ideas about money, property, communal sharing, and the rights and obligations of the rich and poor. In the early church, wealth was invariably regarded as a theological issue.
González asks why it is not so regarded today. Highly recommended. (For another patristic view of money, see “Money and Property” in A. Bieler’s The Social Humanism of Calvin.) |
