MAKER & CRAFTSMAN
: The Story of Dorothy L. Sayers
This is a very well done profile of one of Britain’s best twentieth-century writers. It is compact but well researched. The author explores Sayers’s childhood, her Oxford education, her experiences in advertising, publishing and radio, and her poetry, articles, mysteries and plays. Dale counters the notion that Sayers bagged her childhood faith during her university and premarriage experiences. She also
helps readers understand the quirkiness that characterizes so many gifted artists. A very good contribution. |
