MAKER & CRAFTSMAN : The Story of Dorothy L. Sayers
Dale, Alzina Stone
Harold Shaw, 1992
158 pages

This is a very well done profile of one of Britain’s best twentieth-century writers. It is compact but well researched. The author explores Sayers’s childhood, her Oxford education, her experiences in advertising, publishing and radio, and her poetry, articles, mysteries and plays. Dale counters the notion that Sayers bagged her childhood faith during her university and premarriage experiences. She also helps readers understand the quirkiness that characterizes so many gifted artists. A very good contribution.

"All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us."

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (NIV)
