ON THE JOB : The Christian 9 to 5
Catherwood, H. F. R.
Zondervan, 1983
185 pages

Catherwood’s purpose in writing is “to see what obedience to Christ means in some major aspects of industrial society today.” The book is born out of discussions in the early 1960s between “a dozen Christians concerned with industry and commerce.” As such, it is of notable breadth, calling Christians to apply their faith to their views of work, income, politics, labor relations, competition, the stock market and taxation. The material is dated in places despite revisions made for the present edition. However, Catherwood’s rare combination as a Christian scholar and member of the European Parliament gives this text timeless value.
