SPIRIT AT WORK
Conger, Jay A.
Jossey-Bass, 1994
222 pages

Conger has gathered a diverse group of individuals, including management experts, a Lilly Endowment program director and two Jesuit priests, to examine the role spirituality can play in the work environment. The basic premise is that in this day of increased isolation in people’s personal lives, organizational leaders can make a spiritual impact in the workplace. Conger wants to “challenge and push us into thinking more deeply about the ways spirituality might play a role in workplace life and in its leadership.” To that end, the essays cover topics such as “Leadership and Spirituality: A Quest for Reconciliation,” “What Leaders Cannot Do Without: The Spiritual Dimensions of Leadership” and “Spirited Connections: Learning to Tap the Spiritual Resources of Our Lives and Work.” Interesting and thought-provoking.
