THAT WE MAY BE ONE : The Autobiography of Nigerian Ambassador Jolly Tanko Yusuf
Yusuf, Jolly Tanko, with Lillian V. Grissen
Eerdmans, 1995
123 pages

Yusuf, who served as a government leader and diplomat for Nigeria, applied Christ’s words about unity to tribalism, Muslim-Christian tensions, racism, denominationalism and imperialism throughout his career. Though he writes with candor and bluntness about Islam, Yusuf seeks to achieve full citizenship rights for all people. He speaks with deep love for English and American missionaries but strongly critiques their practice of discrimination and air of superiority. Yusuf understands that “God was particularly calling—and challenging—me to witness for him politically” (p. 60).

""You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.""

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
