THE EMPOWERING CHURCH
: How One Congregation Supports Lay People’s Ministries in the World
Crabtree discovered that all her “Go Out into the World” sermons went nowhere. Then she realized that the congregational systems were all biased toward “inside the church spirituality.” That began an adventure of change in her parish, Colchester Federated Church, in Connecticut. It lasted four years and led to her doctor of ministry thesis and this well-designed and easy-to-read tale. The approach is from more of a systems than a theological approach. It has good practical helps, but it
needs rooting in Scripture. A study guide is also available. It would be helpful to have an update on the church now that Davida has been gone a while: this kind of change should be tested over decades.
