THE WORK TRAP
Engstrom, Ted W., & David J. Juroe
Revell, 1979
222 pages

Engstrom and Juroe expose the common problem of overworking and examine its conditions, causes and cures. Their goal is to reorient our thinking about work and restore its pleasure and proper place among all of life’s priorities. They describe the characteristics, attitudes and habits of people who overwork and explain why they become addicted: cultural conditioning, spiritual deficiencies or psychological factors. The authors take a biblical view of work and establish its inherent worth, and they propose practical strategies for escaping the work trap and restoring balance to one’s life. The book provides important help for avoiding a major form of idolatry in our day. (See also When Work Goes Sour by James Dittes, a book on workaholism among male workers.)
