WHERE'S GOD ON MONDAY : Integrating Faith and Work Every Day of the Week
review by Pete Hammond
Alistair Mackenzie and Wayne Kirkland
NavPress NZ Ltd., 2002

A pastor who plays in a rock band and a used car salesman team up to wrestle with serving God in everyday responsibilities in work and family life. They wrestle with foundational issues (calling, biblical and cultural views of work, the sacred-secular split, etc.) as well as the struggles believers have with self-understanding, family life, citizenship and jobs. They engage the areas of life that most institutionally focused churches ignore, misunderstand or disparage - the workplace. But their style is very practical with good questions posed at the end of each brief chapter (an average of 4-6 pages each). This is book intended to be the first in a series with others focused on career and life planning, ethics and everyday spirituality. The style is not limited by its New Zealand origins either.

"All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us."

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (NIV)
