Active participant in a local church
Ministry experience
For church planters – an undergraduate degree in Bible and/or Intercultural Studies or equivalent study and experience.
For Other Personnel – 30 hours of Bible and Intercultural Studies or equivalent study and experience

Application and Candidacy Process
A complete application form and five references are required to start the application process. Once approved, applicants will be asked to take a medical exam, sign a background screening release, and complete on-line assessments. Approved applicants are invited to Candidate Orientation, and after successful completion, are eligible for appointment as Avant missionaries.
Training Program
Candidates planning to serve 6 months or longer attend a two week orientation program. The curriculum begins with Avant’s ethos, values, policies and operation. It shifts quickly to a dual focus – knowing yourself and effective cross-cultural ministry. Training in developing personal prayer and financial support is included in week two.
Members of Short-Cycle church planting teams return for an additional two weeks of team training. Effective team ministry and Short-Cycle principles form the core curriculum. Additional training in innovation and strategic process provide a basis for ministry in non-traditional settings. The style is largely interactive with an emphasis on case studies, team roles, rules and goals as well as formulation of the team’s entry and initial steps strategy.
Various other programs of leadership development, personal development and spiritual renewal are provided on the field, regionally and internationally.
Funding
Missionaries raise their support for their personal expenses. Avant Ministries works missionaries to raise support for specific projects as needed.
