Upon approval for service the candidate is required to raise 100% of funding including medical insurance, travel/set-up costs, language school and on-going ministry/personal expenses.
Application and Candidacy Process
The following are components of the process for service with CI:
Formal Application Papers
These include questions on personal background, employment history, vision for ministry, doctrinal convictions, etc. We will also ask for academic transcripts and photographs.
Missionary Preparation & Orientation (MPO)
We require active participation in the 10 day orientation by candidates before acceptance as a missionary. This normally happens twice a year: during the first two weeks of February or the last two weeks of September. Orientation will acquaint the candidate with our history, our vision for the future, our approach to ministry and an overview of World Missions.
Interviews
Our Member Care staff and Field Ministries Department will consult with each candidate twice during MPO.
Recommendations
We will send four recommendation forms to be submitted by pastors, church leaders, employers and friends.
Upon completion of all of these steps, the candidate application will be reviewed by the VP of Field Ministries.
Once candidates are appointed as missionaries with Calvary International, the following steps must be taken before they can begin active service:
Funding
They are expected to raise the specified support, travel expense, language school, orientation and other costs of induction into the work. CI requires that 100% of the agreed-upon level of financial support be raised prior to leaving for field of service.
Personality Profile Evaluations
CI administers tests to help the candidate identify strengths and weaknesses within their personality, marriage as well as preparation for cultural adaptation. These tests are not used to "screen" applicants, rather, they are used to help applicants understand themselves and how they may best serve the Lord.
Timothy Internship Program (TIP)
CI conducts internships in Burkina Faso, West Africa, Peten Region of Northern Guatemala at our Global Training Ministry Base and in Iloilo, Philippines. Each new missionary is required to complete a 10 week internship consisting of:

Medical Requirements
We require a physical examination for each candidate and family member who will be serving. We also require health insurance to be in force at the time of acceptance as a Calvary Missionary.
Individual Training Issues
Preparation needs differ for each candidate. CI may also require additional theological education for a particular area of service, specific ministry training, individual counseling, etc.
Training Program
Calvary employs a three tier training process for new missionaries. 10 day orientation held at our world headquarters in Jacksonville, FL; 10 week internships in Africa, Guatemala or Philippines; 10 month apprenticeships in various field locations being mentored by veteran missionaries.
