Vision
EMI's mission is to design a world of hope for the spiritually and physically poor by mobilizing Christian design professionals, engineers and architects, to minister to the less fortunate in developing nations. We proclaim the Gospel of Jesus by helping others change their world through the development of hospitals, schools, orphanages, bridges, water supplies, electricity and more. EMI provides free architectural and engineering design services to Christian ministries. Opportunities to serve with engineering and architecture (with varying levels of experience) range from 2 weeks, to 3 months, to 2 years, in developing countries. Our commitment is to enrich the lives of those who give and those who receive. EMI currently has offices in Colorado Springs, USA; Calgary, Canada; UK; India; Costa Rica; and Uganda.

Training Program
The requirements for our long term staff includes a custom training based on their assignment, this includes reading books and consistent communication with EMI’s Member Care Director. Prior to joining us full-time, our staff participate in a week long orientation week which incorporates cross cultural, spiritual, and technical training along with bonding and self discovery. After they join staff, further training is more hands on which includes the new staff member to be mentored by a senior staff member which includes project leading and in-office coordination for projects. Our interns that serve with us for 3-6 months also participate in the orientation week at our headquarters. Further technical and cultural training is then completed on location in a particular office. Interns are mentored both spiritually and in their design field by Christian design professionals on staff.

Funding
EMI’s staff and interns are all responsible for raising their own support through their local churches and personal contacts. Applicants must have basic financial freedom. If a person has heavy financial indebtedness, this may affect availability for involvement. However, students who have accumulated student loans can generally have the loans deferred for the time they are serving in the internship.
