Questions about: How can I use my major & skills?

Joel: (07/14/02) I am a 21 year old college student and farmer. If I were to graduate with a degree in agriculture, would AIM be interested in a farmer-missionary? I feel that is what God wants me to do, and I have been in prayer seeking his will for some time.

Yours in Christ Jesus,

Joel

Jack: Dear Joel:

I'm sure you have a wealth of experience, not only with the theoretical knowledge you have learned by studying agriculture at the college level, but also with what must be years of hands-on experience as a journeyman farmer. I'm sure many missions who minister to rural populations would be delighted to have someone like you in their ranks. You could not only help the local people with better farming methods but you could talk to them in terms they would understand. Farmers have a lot in common all over the world.

You mentioned AIM. Are you referring to Africa Inland Mission? If so, I would suggest that you ask them! (AIM_Info@aimint.org). They work in many countries of Africa, have over 100 years of experience, and deal with a budget of over $12 million! If they turn you down, there are many other mission agencies who work with rural people. (Note for example: FARMS International, Inc farms@lakenet.com; www.farmsinternational.com). If you go to Urbana 2003, you could talk to literally hundreds of them!

May the Lord bless and guide you.

Jack
