| Questions about: How can I use my major & skills? |
| Barbra: (12/31/04)
I feel it is time to move on but all the jobs of interest to me and that I could do are with secular service non-profits. Sometimes I feel divided being in a place that serves with people who are all across the map in their beliefs. How do you suggest to view this place? I have heard talks that God is calling believers into institutions in the city to create sustainable change that way but sometimes I just want to work alongside Christians in a faith-based ministry but I can't seem to find any I am qualified for or would want to do. |
| Jack: I’m not surprised, Barbra, that you would prefer to work alongside Christians in a faith-based ministry. I’m sure you would feel much more at home and certainly more secure. When Jesus prayed to his Father for his disciples he recognized that Christians would be more comfortable with each other and that the world would hate them, “for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.” However, he added, “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one….As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world” (John 17:14,15). Sent into the world. He called his believers light and salt. As someone has said, the light is for shining in the darkness; the salt belongs in the soup! It may be that the Lord is gently pushing you into a situation where your light can shine and the saltiness of your life can be a blessing to those who need it the most. If this is so, respond to this opportunity with expectancy and great dependence on Jesus. In His Fellowship, Jack You are the light of the world – like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father (Mt 5:14-16). |
