| Stephen : (08/16/05) Hello Jack!
I have a BA in Psychology as well as in Biblical Studies and I have just spent a year abroad working with unreached people groups in Southern Mexico undergoing a missionary training program. I am currently searching graduate schools for a Master's in Public Health with an emphasis in International Health, namely in Health Systems. My goal would be head into areas with little or no health system and work from the ground up, with my focus on church planting as I build relationships. If I go to a Christian school for Public Health I know this will cut down on chances to getting into a closed country. Do you know of any organizations or programs where I can get a degree and be on the field or have help to pay for schooling so that I do not spend years trying to pay off debt? Furthermore, do you know of anyone trying to do church planting using their Public Health degree as an inlet into an unreached people group?
Thanks a bunch,
Stephen |
| Jack: Stephen, check out Project Med Send (http://www.medsend.org/). Their concern is to help students in the medical field, interested in missions, with their educational costs.
As for using a Public Health degree as an entrance into an unreached people group, I would suggest that you contact the following agencies and share with them your question: • Frontiers (480) 834 1500; www.frontiers.org; info-us@frontiers.org They are experiencing unusual success in planting churches among Muslim peoples. • Christian Medical & Dental Society. (423) 844 1000; www.cmdahome.org; main@cmdahome.org. They sent out a number of medical teams each year and I’m sure would be in contact with situations where medical work is opening the door to church planting in unreached areas. • Medical Ambassadors Intl. ((209) 524 0600. www.med-amb.org/index.html. (Their emphasis is on recruiting and training national leaders.) I trust you can find some help through these contacts. Jack |
