| Questions about: How can I use my major & skills? |
| Melanie: (12/10/06) Hi! I want to pursue full time missions and I was wondering if you could inform me if missions organizations use people with computer, secretary, medical office admistration, and business skills because these are skills I am aquiring at the college I go to and I would like to know if I could use them in missions in the future so that I can decide what to do in the future. I want some insight so that I can make a decision about going to Moody to get the know how to minister somehow in a foreign country or maybe just go to a school for two more years to get a good bible background. |
| Jack: Melanie, the simple answer is "yes!" Los of mission organizations are looking for people with these skills. Some need individuals in the "home office," others on the field itself.
I would encourage you to take advantage of two search engines to see which individual agencies are seeking which skills. Here are two: 1) Right Now http://www.rightnow.org/worldConnection.aspx 2) Mission finder: http://www.missionfinder.org/ Moody would be a good choice for missions training as well as Bible background. They have a very long history of training missionaries and give their students an opportunity to do practical, hands-on mission work right there in Chicago. (This is how my Dad learned to do open air preaching which stood him in good stead when he went to Korea as a missionary.) Jack |
