Questions about: Urbana

Dorcas: (12/11/06) Hey Jack, I hope alls going well, the youth missions team in my church have come together and decided to attend Urbana. We are all extremeley exited. We are currently in FL and cant figure out whether its better to rent a a mini van (theres 7 of us) or fly there, it is way cheaper to rent the bus (including gas, and its 18 hrs), but safer by plane (double the cost of bus and 2 1/2 hrs). And the reason why this is an issue is because we are all struggling with money, and paying for the conference itself has been hard for us all. whats your take???

Jack: Tough choice, Dorcas. Perhaps you should reserve the mini van and then think of some more ways to raise the money. I'd encourage a good long prayer meeting both to ask the Lord for His wisdom, put your needs before Him, and ask Him to prepare you for the experience. It might be a great bonding experience. Riding in a bus has its advantages and disadvantages as you have noted. Here are some additional advantages: - A good way to identify with students in the third world. Some of our Colombian students rode 50 hours on a bus to attend a conference in Lima, Peru! - 18 hours together would be a magnificant bonding experience, especially if you plan for things to do on the way. - A great way to see the country! - and pray for what you are seeing on the way.

On the other hand, you will arrive more fatigued this way. Make sure you start early enough to get there on time to take a nap, and then please get to bed on time!

May the Lord guide you all. Thanks for asking!

Jack
