| Lori Ann: (12/06/06) Does the word "urbana" mean something related to missions, or is it a varient of 'urban,' or what? It sounds cool and I'd like to be able to tell people what it means (I have the bag that says Urbana06 on it).

| Jack: The name "Urbana" comes from the fact that from 1949 to 2003 InterVarsity held the "Urbana Student Mission Convention" at the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign. Thus, the name comes from the city and even though this year it takes place in St Louis, so many people identify the Mission Convention by the name "Urbana," InterVarsity decided to just keep it! In advertising, this is called "branding," identifying something by its "brand name."
