| Joseph: (06/15/06) Hi Jack, I heard there is a discount for international students attending Urbana, however when registering I do not see any difference between the price I am paying and the normal amount after indicating that I am an international student. Should I just complete registration first before the June 15 dateline and ask for the discount later or is there any way of finding out how to get the discount as an international student?
Warmest regards,
Joseph. |
| Jack: Sorry I didn't get to you sooner, Joseph. My understanding is that the only way international students may receive a discount is if they are part of IFES (The International Fellowship of Evangelical Students) which has a certain number of scholarships for students from foreign countries.
These scholarships are handled through the General Secretary of each National Movement. Although International Students are certainly welcome to attend Urbana, in contrast to former years, InterVarsity is not making a strong effort to subsidize them or even encourage them to attend. There are two main reasons for this: 1) The Urbana Student Mission Convention is basically geared to the North American student: his or her context and world view. 2) Increasingly, Student Mission Conferences are being held in many other places of the world and attendance at one of these conferences may well be more relevant to students in or from these cultures.
