| Questions about: Guidance |
| Sara: (09/18/06) I would like some insight from someone who has 'been around the missions block'. I feel a calling to full time missions, but I don't know where to go. God has placed me in the suburban town of Chico, CA for a reason, so does that mean that I should stay in Chico and live out God's Truth and Love? Or should I go to an inner city where my heart seems to come alive? I just need some guidance on what to do. I'm praying and listening, but I don't hear a clear answer. I just need some guidance; I understand if you don't have an answer to this question. |
| Jack: Thanks, Sarah, for your honest question, similar to many I have received. Some thoughts:
- The stirring in your heart to serve the Lord comes from Him, of this I am sure. That, to me, is the important thing. The locale is really secondary. - The Bible encourages us (in different words) to “bloom where we are planted.” In other words, be a witness for Jesus where we are. In Acts 1:8, Jesus told His disciples to begin their missionary activity in Jerusalem – where they were. - However, I take very seriously that it is the inner city where your “heart seems to come alive?” If we could chat for an hour or so, I’d ask you about that phrase. o When did this happen? o An urban plunge? o Reading about urban ministry? o What is there about the Inner City that calls you? o I would certainly explore the option. If He wants you there (and it appears that He has taken the initiative in your heart), He can easily open the door, if you are willing to walk through it. So… - Keep on praying - Keep your eyes open - Be faithful where you are and you will rejoice to see how the Lord uses you – either in Chico or in an inner city context. Jack |
