Dear Jack, |
| Jack: Stephen, I don't think there is an official listing of Creative Access Nations (sometimes referred to as CAN). Some are more closed than others. Most Moslem nations would fit into this category (the most extreme example being Saudia Arabia). However, Christians do enter, but not officially as missionaries. Also, many of these countries have severe laws against a person changing their religion. North Korea is perhaps the most hermetically sealed country, although the Gospel is spread through radio and the faithful witness of believers within the country. One cannot go to China as a missionary, but many foreigners are present there, quietly speaking of Jesus and leading Bible studies, as well as the Chinese themselves. For these reasons, missiologists prefer not to use the term "closed countries," nor even "Difficult Access," but "Creative Access." It's part of what Paul speaks of using "all means" to present the truth of Jesus. (I understand that this term was coined many years ago by my colleague in InterVarsity, Scott Bessenecker, who leads the area of Global Projects.) Jack |
