Questions about: Money and Missions

Jeff: (11/16/07) I have the opportunity to take a church that can only partially support myself and my family. (It's in Western Europe) I really am lead to go, but I have no idea where to go to find the rest of the support. I've approached a few churches locally, but no one is open to support us. Any ideas? The area is fairly expensive and they have told me to plan about 40,000 Euro a year. Jeff

Jack: An interesting problem, Jeff. Several options come to mind. 1) One seal on God's call would be the provision of your support. If it isn't there, then perhaps you have misread God's call. 2) If you are sure of God's call, remember Hudson Taylor's famous phrase, "God's work done in God's way meets God's supply." Trust the Lord for the needed provision, as you share your vision with local churches. (However, remember that Taylor never went forward until he had the money he had trusted God for in his hand.) 3) Explore opportunities to work part-time (or your wife). What skills do you have that are "marketable?" - Do you speak the local language? - Would there be an option to teach English? (If you opt for this, you should get at least a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language.) 4) If your call is strong, go, trusting that the Lord will enable you to stretch the money they promise to cover your needs (as you live very frugally), trusting that as a a result of your ministry you'll be able to attract more people and thus raise your salary.

May the Lord bless and guide you, Jeff.

Jack
