Questions about: Guidance

A: (03/28/07) I have a heart for China and I have this opportunity to serve in China for 2 years. Recently my struggle is basically trying to determine whether God is calling me to leave this year or not. I have been spending much time reading His word and God has led me to read proverbs, a book I normally wouldn't read and He has been speaking to me through this verses, especially through verses talking about how those who find God, find life as well as having pure motives will take us straight down the road. Also, verses saying how God uses the weak and despised things to shame the strong. I'm not sure if these are signs from God or not. I feel like God is saying to me, that my motives are right and my heart is right before Him and God's not going to shut any doors before me, in fact he's saying do as you want. Would God give such a decision as what I am experiencing? Or would He give more of a yes or no or wait answer?

Jack: Thanks, Annie, for your question. From the description of how you have been approaching the issue, I think you are doing well. 1) You are eager to do His will. 2) You are faithful in being in His presence on a regular basis. 3) Both from the Old as well as the New Testament you are hearing His voice. 4) Your motives are right and your heart is right.

Therefore, I think you should "do what you want," and continue to hold the opportunity up before Him. He is well able to close doors, but don't necessarily interpret this to mean that you have chosen wrongly! I find that God often gives a "vision" (usually including a promise) but then circumstances arise and we are tempted to think all is lost. However, it is in these moments that He teaches us about trusting Him, until the vision is realized.

So...go for it! Continue to wait on Him and rejoice in His love for you and His wonderful purposes for your life.

Jack

Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord (Ps 27:14)
