Questions about: Guidance

Kevin.: (04/18/07) Hi Jack, I read M's email, I am also full of superstition, just like M, should i also think that the whole day gets spoilt just because I feel like that or because i break eg.,a glass etc., what advise would you give, Kevin.

Jack: It would be interesting, Kevin, to know where these superstitions come from.

Note one definition of a "superstition”: “A belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation…an irrational abject attitude of mind…” (Webster). I think you need to fill your mind with truth, not the confusion of what you are calling “superstitions”.

I suggested to “M” that she should memorize Psalm 23. This would be good for you, as well.

I would also encourage you to think your way through Psalm 91. Note the following ideas in the Psalm: 1) What does God promise? (You need these promises.) 2) What conditions does God put on these promises? (They are not for everyone! God expects us to respond in certain ways to Him as a condition of experiencing His promises.)

As you fill your mind with God’s truth, and seek Him, you will then have the option of choosing either to live by faith (trusting in God’s presence and promises) or to live by your “irrational attitude of mind.” I encourage you to live by faith in the living God.

Jack
