One incident was when he told me to go up to a perfect stranger and talk to her about Jesus. I did and we actually had a great conversation. She didn't get saved that day, but she began to question and a seed was planted. Now I had an exam and during the test, I asked God's help to tell me what answers to pick. So I meditated and heard that voice again and answered... later on I heard that those answered I picked were wrong. How do I know if I just made a "god voice" in my head? Ryan (name changed) |
| Jack: Ryan, I think we have to be very careful when we refer to "hearing God's voice." It is often difficult to distinguish what is from the Lord and what may be just our subjective thinking - as you discovered in the exam! For this reason, I would find that it is important to confirm such a "voice" through various means such as a careful reading of Scripture, consulting with mature Christian friends, and carefully analyzing your situation. I can't evaluate the authenticity of the inclination you had to talk to the perfect stranger, but we know that God's desire is for all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. And often the Holy Spirit prompts us to talk to people. However, when it comes to something like an examination question, my experience has been that the Lord expects us to study faithfully and, after committing our situation to Him, to do our best. It is one thing to ask the Lord to help us remember what we have studied and find that He does, and quite another to expect Him to help us choose something out of the blue. I appreciate your humility in asking this question. I would suggest a study of the book of Acts to discern how Paul and his companions made decisions as they faced crucial questions. Jack |

I have heard God's voice in my life before.
